are showing enthusiasm for the unique promotion and have jumped
at the chance to sign up.
By signing up for Miners Mobile Madness, fans are now able to receive
score updates, Miners wallpaper and ringtones, exclusive ticket and merchandise offers, text messages from coaches and players, and Miners team stats through their cell phones. Fans can register for Miners Mobile Madness on the team’s website for $9.99 for the entire season. Proceeds from the mobile marketing campaign, sponsored by a local newspaper, benefit the team. The Miners organization is currently advertising Miners Mobile Madness on its website, at the stadium, in local newspapers and through television advertising.
“Miners Mobile Madness gives the fans an emotional connection to not only the team, but to the individual players themselves,” said Steve Kelley, founder and CEO of MESSAGEbuzz. “Several in-game activities are on-going such as allowing fans to vote for a favorite song to be played during the 7th inning stretch, casting votes for MVP players and texting to win prizes. Any of these activities are a continuation of the enjoyment one has at the Miner’s games and now it is on a more personal level.”
Erik Haag, executive vice-president/COO of the Southern Illinois Miners, said the text messaging campaign is being well received by fans and the feedback has been positive. Initiating a unique mobile marketing campaign is another example of the forward thinking that has helped make the Southern Illinois Miners the 2007 Frontier League Pick Organization of the Year.
“Miners Mobile Madness allows us to connect our team with the fans in a new way, and since the interest level in the team is so high, we thought having the opportunity for our fans to receive up-to-the minute news about the Miners, such as trades and scores, would be of high interest,” Haag said.
