A common short code (CSC) is a short telephone number, usually consisting of 5 or 6 digits, that is used to address SMS and MMS messages. Each short code is designed to be unique to each operator.

New requirements in the United States marketplace have enforced the use of short codes for all text messaging traffic, whether sent or received.

Dedicated vs. Shared Short Code

For clients who are looking for a cost-efficient solution that can be activated instantly, we recommend using a shared short code with the expectation of low to moderate message volumes. High volume messaging requires a procurement of a dedicated short code.

Two types of dedicated short code numbers are available:

  • Random: A random short code assigned to you; e.g. 35350
  • Vanity (Selected): A specific short code requested by you (if available); e.g. 33333
